2026 Beach Restoration
On February 10 at a Special meeting, the membership voted unanimously to spend up to $30,000 to restore Dividing and Oak Grove beaches. Following is a log of activities:
Feb 24: Submitted Standard Grading applications to AA. County for review and approval.
Feb 25: Confirmed suppliers for a new picnic table at each beach and additional park bench at Oak Grove beach. Orders will be timed to arrive mid-May to allow time for grass to establish.
Mar 13: Grading applications approved by the county.
Mar 14: Lime application at both beaches to increase PH. Oak Grove beach in particular has very acidic soil at 5.0PH.
Mar 16: Aeration at both beaches. Clean-up of pine needles, leaves and general debris throughout Dividing beach.
Mar 18: Three trees removed from Oak Grove beach on the right side of the steps. All 3 were leaning and in danger of falling on the neighbors house/yard. General clean-up of fallen trees, invasive vines and debris.
Next up
March: Submitting a VMP (vegetation management plan) to the county for approval to remove dead/dying trees and vines on right side property line of Oak Grove beach front. (New, native vegetation and mulch to be added to this area in the future)
March: Submitting a VMP to the county for approval to remove several trees that are dead/dying, as well as two trees growing into the chain link fence on the right side. Pruning of all trees to the maximum height allowed. This project will open up more space, and allow significantly more sunlight in. The environmental committee will work on a plan to define mulched areas down the left and right sides of the beach, and add native vegetation where appropriate. Please volunteer to support them at MBCASevernaPark@gmail.com!
April: Our selected contractor will grade both beaches where the sand meets the land and then add significant amounts of sand to replenish our beaches.
April: Immediately after the completion of the contractor work, we will overseed the lawn at Oak Grove beach with a tall fescue blend intended for high traffic areas with reduced sunlight. New sod to be added to Dividing beach that is intended for high traffic areas with reduced sunlight.
May: Delivery of new picnic tables for both beaches, and an additional park bench will be added at Oak Grove Beach.
